The Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children's Center
As part of a new $1.1 billion state-of-the-art hospital building that will open on April 29, 2012, Johns Hopkins Hospital will open the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children’s Center in honor of the late mother of Mike Bloomberg. The new Children’s Center has 205 rooms and 10 surgical suites dedicated entirely to pediatric care. Together, the new facility and the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children’s Center will allow Johns Hopkins Hospital to enhance the level of care, comfort and privacy provided to patients.
The new Johns Hopkins Hospital Building is a unique art and architecture collaboration between over 70 artists from across the country. In total, the new facility features more than 500 original works of art. The building's unique façade is a wall of glass and steel commissioned by Michael Bloomberg and created by Brooklyn artist Spencer Finch. The art and architecture of the building is intended to enhance patient healing.
