The Lupus Research Institute (LRI) has announced a new groundbreaking global research initiative that will seek to discover the root causes of lupus and explore the potential for a cure. A Bloomberg Philanthropies grant will fund the Distinguished Innovator's Program, an LRI initiative to attract the most talented researchers from around the globe.

Mike Bloomberg had this to say about the LRI's new initiative:

"Lupus is a too often overlooked disease that affects 1.5 million people in this country, and thousands of New Yorkers. This grant will fuel the work of the Distinguished Innovators Program and further LRI's demonstrated track record in significantly advancing medical discovery."
