Starting tomorrow, one of the world's most eye-catching events comes to one of the world’s greatest cultural institutions, as we kick off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. Every year, the events pump hundreds of millions of dollars into the City's economy and support the 175,000 people who work in New York City’s fashion industry. Lincoln Center is an ideal location for the semi-annual events, with more outdoor space than was available at Bryant Park and terrific transit access, including the No. 1 subway line, or as it will be called this week: The Fashion Line.

| | Mayor Bloomberg Outlines Progress On The Rebuilding of the WTC Site and Creation of National 9/11 Memorial
One World Trade Center is currently 36-stories, going up to 106-stories. Tower Number 4 is rising. The demolition of 130 Liberty nearing completion, and construction of the Calatrava-designed transit hub is underway. Perhaps most encouraging is the progress of the new 9/11 Memorial & Museum - the spiritual and emotional heart of the site. And I'm happy to confirm that we are on track to open the Memorial in time for next year’s 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The typical New Yorker is less likely to be unemployed or facing foreclosure or bankruptcy than the average American. Homes in the metropolitan area have held their value better than in most other big cities as more people are moving to the region than deserting it. Tourists continue to flock to the city, filling hotel rooms at the highest rate in the country, and at rising prices.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Schools Chancellor Joel Klein and United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew today celebrated New York State's selection and award of $700 million in the U.S. Department of Education’s Race to the Top competition. This award will provide between $250 million and $300 million to New York City schools to support the creation of a new teacher evaluation system, develop a more rigorous curriculum and State assessments based on the national Common Core Standards, and expand a range of proven reforms first introduced in New York City.
