Statement from Mike Bloomberg on Cook County Vote to Approve Tax on Sugary Drinks
NOV. 10, 2016
With Cook County's successful vote tonight, seven American cities will have adopted a sugary drinks tax to reduce obesity and tackle the diabetes crisis. This is a major victory for American public health -- and a very encouraging sign of things to come. An idea that was written off not many years ago has now turned into a movement. It is clear that this is just a beginning – we anticipate many other cities will pursue soda taxes in the months ahead.
