Statement from Mike Bloomberg on the Passing of John Doar

By - NOV. 11, 2014

I was saddened to hear of the death of John Doar, whose principled commitment to our nation’s highest ideals made him one of the most important public figures of his time. He stood at the center of the battle over desegregation in the South, the battle over President Nixon’s impeachment in Washington, and the battle for opportunity and justice in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Without seeking public office or personal notice, John Doar helped chart a better future for the country.  His courageous and determined spirit inspired all who knew him, and New York has been fortunate that it led his son, Robert, into public service. I know how deeply Robert admired his father, and my thoughts are with him and the entire Doar family.
