This is a great day for equal rights in America, and a powerful testament to how organized and effective advocacy can lead to laws that guarantee fundamental rights — rights that are too important to leave to the Supreme Court’s changing politics. More than a half-century after the Stonewall Uprising, and more than a decade after helping to win passage of same-sex marriage in New York State and supporting it nationally, I want to congratulate everyone who played a role in achieving this critically important safeguard of individual rights.
