One of the big problems with President Donald Trump’s nostalgic view of the country’s history — “Make America Great Again” — is that it has always winked at the ghost of Jim Crow. Nowhere does that ghost haunt the promise of the American Dream more vividly than the city where Trump will hold his re-election campaign rally on Saturday night: Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Justice has prevailed: Hundreds of thousands of Dreamers, who lived in fear of deportation every day, can now feel safe in their own communities.

Christo inspired us with his brilliance and originality, and his works will continue to do so for decades to come.”

The story of Greenwood is not just one of the ugliest chapters in American history. It’s part of a 400 year history of racial oppression that systematically robbed generations of Black Americans of their labor and wealth and denied them an equal opportunity to pursue the American dream. That history, like the massacre at Greenwood, has been buried for far too long, and that needs to change.

States that are reopening their economies even as cases of Covid-19 are still rising are threatening their own residents and the whole country. But they are also running into two challenges that all states will face: Employees don’t want to return to work if they fear exposure to coronavirus on the job, and employers don’t want to get sued if their workers or customers end up sick. Both concerns are reasonable, and both could further cripple the economy unless Congress steps in.

President Donald Trump has failed in multiple ways to lead an effective fight against the coronavirus. Among the most troubling is his push to increase air pollution in the midst of an unprecedented respiratory pandemic — jeopardizing people’s ability to survive it — while the nation’s attention is focused on the emergency at hand.

The gravest emergency to confront the U.S. in decades has fallen on the watch of a uniquely unfit president. At a time when the world should be looking to the White House for wisdom and leadership, it finds only Donald Trump’s characteristic blend of incompetence and dishonesty.

Withholding funding from the World Health Organization (WHO) is an attempt by the president to shift blame for his own failures to prepare our country for this crisis – and tragically, it will lead to more suffering and death around the world.

While many Americans are watching the daily news conferences by President Donald Trump and some governors, the action behind the scenes is being led by the elected officials who are closest to the public, and who are directly managing the crisis in their communities: mayors.

“As we battle the coronavirus, we know that people with underlying health issues who smoke tobacco or use e-cigarettes may have an increased risk for serious complications. That makes the importance of prohibiting the sale of all flavored e-cigarettes even more urgent, and today we took a major step forward. New York has become the largest state to enact a ban, and I applaud Governor Cuomo and other state leaders for standing up to the tobacco industry and protecting millions of children and families. The youth e-cigarette epidemic is still with us, and getting these dangerous products off the market is even more essential than ever.”
