Michael R. Bloomberg Meets with President of the Government of Spain Pedro Sánchez

Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies, met today with Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government of Spain, in New York to discuss Spain’s strong economic growth, its increasing importance as a center for business and investment in Southern Europe, and opportunities to deepen Bloomberg’s engagement in the country.

Bloomberg reaffirmed his longstanding and growing commitment to Spain and the important role the country plays for Bloomberg, its clients, and the broader financial and business community.

Bloomberg said Spain’s growth, its talent, and its position between Europe and Latin America make it one of the most consequential markets in the EU today, and that he expects Spain’s importance to Bloomberg to continue to grow.

As part of that commitment, Bloomberg will expand its programming and convening activity in Spain over the coming year, bringing together leaders from business, finance, government and civil society around the issues shaping Spain’s economy and the wider region. This will include building on the BloombergNEF Forum in Madrid and developing additional high-level dialogues with Spain’s regulatory institutions focused on economic growth, financial markets and capital market integration, investment and the energy transition.

In connection with the meeting, Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Government of Spain announced the Spain Green Energy and Grid Accelerator, a new partnership to help Spain turn its renewable energy advantage into lower costs, stronger energy security, and greater industrial competitiveness.

Bloomberg also welcomed Spain’s endorsement of the Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships (CHAMP) for Climate Action, which Bloomberg Philanthropies launched at COP28 to strengthen cooperation between national and local governments on climate policy, finance, and implementation.

The meeting reflected a shared interest in deepening Bloomberg’s presence in Spain and building on the country’s growing role as a business, financial and energy hub linking Southern Europe and Latin America.
