The Earthshot Prize and Bloomberg Philanthropies co-hosted the second Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Held during New York Climate Week and the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Summit focused on bringing together policymakers, global business leaders, philanthropists, and climate activists to spotlight and scale groundbreaking solutions that address the world’s most crucial environmental challenges. The Summit also unveiled the fifteen 2023 Earthshot Prize Finalists, each eligible to receive one of five £1 million prizes to be awarded at The Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Singapore on November 7.
In his opening remarks, Michael R. Bloomberg, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions and Global Advisor to the Winners of The Earthshot Prize said, “By focusing on new innovations and promising ideas, and engaging young people and future leaders, the Earthshot Prize is not about yesterday. It’s about today and tomorrow — because the climate crisis is no longer some far-off menace. It’s here. Right now. And the effects are only getting worse.”
