ADVOCATE — The fight for equal rights has been one of the great fights of my life. As mayor of New York City, I came out in favor of marriage equality in 2005 — long before it was considered politically safe to do so, and years before many of the other candidates for president stated their support publicly.

NEW YORK, NY — Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg’s campaign today released “George,” the ad that will air during Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, February 2. The ad features Calandrian Simpson Kemp, a mother from Texas who lost her son to gun violence and is an active member of Moms Demand Action.

This election is about whether we recognize that all groups who have been marginalized, excluded, repressed, scapegoated, vilified, or far worse rise and fall together. And that our best hope – and our only hope – is in standing together, rejecting demagogues who try to seduce us by dividing us, and uniting behind the only shield that can protect us: our common values as American citizens and our common humanity as God’s children.

In case you missed it, earlier today during a speech before the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C., Mike Bloomberg announced his support for statehood for the District of Columbia. Mike also announced his plan to bring America’s infrastructure into the 21st century.

I believe that this is a country where anything is possible. And I believe that we have the power to build a future where color and capital are no longer related. That is the future I want to leave my grandchildren – and that is the future that I will work for and build as president.
