Michael R. Bloomberg, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions and founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies, joined COP28 UAE President-Designate Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber to announce a new partnership to bolster meaningful climate action from cities, businesses, financial institutions, and civil society at and ahead of the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP28).

In more than 20 years of public life, I have steadfastly supported Israel and its people in both word and deed, including by building medical facilities there, co-founding a leadership center, supporting its innovative local programs and funding other good causes. I have never gotten involved in its domestic politics or criticized its government initiatives. But my love for Israel, my respect for its people and my concern about its future are now leading me to speak out against the current government’s attempt to effectively abolish the nation’s independent judiciary.

Its own history shows that multinational development banks have the power to tackle global challenges — and no challenge is bigger than climate change.

The tobacco industry is acting as if it’s above the law in California, and it ought to be a wake-up call about its quiet intentions to reverse the gains that have been made in reducing tobacco use over the past two decades.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s decision to step down is a loss for the global community as well as the people of New Zealand, but I have no doubt she’ll find new ways to remain at the forefront of issues she’s most passionate about, including climate change and gun safety.

Restricting Americans’ access to solar-powered electricity is an expensive, and dangerous, proposition in our changing climate.

Thanks to everyone who asked me a question about how Bloomberg Philanthropies and Bloomberg worked to make an impact on some of the toughest challenges we faced in 2022. Hard work and collaboration have inspired our work since the very beginning – and the more we find ways to work together with our partners, the more progress we can make.

Today, as we remember the 26 people killed in the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School 10 years ago, most of them young children, let’s also remember the outrage we felt that day, when the horrible realization hit us that not even elementary schools are safe from America’s epidemic of gun violence.

This is a great day for equal rights in America, and a powerful testament to how organized and effective advocacy can lead to laws that guarantee fundamental rights — rights that are too important to leave to the Supreme Court’s changing politics.
