Bloomberg Philanthropies announced that cities can now apply for Asphalt Art Initiative grants, which will provide as many as 20 U.S. cities up to $25,000 each for projects that use art and design to improve street safety, revitalize public spaces, and engage residents of their communities.

Wagner School of Public Service today announced the Georgina and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Service Fellows Program, launching in the 2021-2022 academic year, to help ensure that the most dedicated and innovative future leaders have access to, and robust training for, careers in public service.

Vernon Jordan lived a singular American life. On the first day of the 2021 Powering Past Coal Alliance Global Summit, Michael R. Bloomberg, the U.N. Bloomberg Philanthropies, in collaboration with Harvard University, announced an expansion of support for city leaders with a new $150 million investment to establish the university-wide Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University.

Our new $150 million initiative will include a new Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University, where mayors, city hall staff, and policy experts will come together to collaborate. There will also be expanded programming and resources for new mayors designed to help them hit the ground running, because so much is riding on their shoulders. The center will be a place where mayors will learn not only from each other, but from a wide range of leaders offering their expertise in practice, governance, and research from across Harvard and across disciplines.

Cities, states and businesses have been blazing a clean energy trail, because they recognize it is in their own interest to do so. They’ve shown that the faster we move away from fossil fuels, the more dynamic and prosperous our economy will grow, the healthier our lungs will become, and the safer from natural disasters our communities will be.

To mark the United States’ return to the Paris Agreement, thousands of non-federal climate leaders launched America is All In, a coalition to drive a society-wide mobilization for bold climate ambition to uphold the country’s commitment to domestic and international climate action.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Michael R. Bloomberg as his Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions. The COP26 High Level Climate Action Champions, Gonzalo Muñoz and Nigel Topping, also named Mr. Bloomberg the first Global Ambassador for the Race to Zero and Race to Resilience campaigns.
